Raku fired pottery originated in Japan to make tea bowls for use in tea ceremonies as early as the 16th century.
The process differs from other ceramic firings in that pottery is pulled from the kiln at 1000 degrees C, glowing hot and cooled in a bin of combustible materials, creating unique glaze and surface effects no other firing process can achieve.
I have worked solely with raku firing for the past 7 years, after many more with normal firings, and aim to develop a unique character in my work.
My studio is situated amongst beautiful bushland, which constantly inspires and assists in the honing of my creativity.
