David Williams, Crystalline Ceramist – 34

I established my studio after completing a BA (Fine Art) at Phillip Institute, Melbourne in 1980. Using one of the most unpredictable glazing techniques, my ceramics feature crystal patterns or blooms.

Very high kiln temperatures are used to fire the clay and then the kiln is cooled over many hours. During this cooling process, crystal patterns of various shapes and sizes form, giving the appearance of delicate flowers, stars or frosts. My work has been exhibited in the National Gallery of Victoria and Parliament House, Canberra.
