There are two minds reaching to realise a painting; the intellectual mind and the subconscious mind; the focussed mind and the dreaming mind. The focussed mind needs to know and explain. It wants proof and control. In contrast the dreaming mind is free to move realities, to linger over improbabilities, to see the impossible as truth.
Meditation on a work brings forward solutions to problems which the focussed mind could never find. The hard part is to allow each mind to do its work in realising the final object. The path the work takes is always a surprise and you never know if you have taken the best path.
