Savaad Felich, Sculptor – 35

It was inadvertently through horticulture while working in the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne in the late 1970’s that I discovered an innate gift for wood carving.  My arts practice has since moved away from direct carving to assemblage, lamination & construction of timber, & incorporating an array of found objects & materials.

I enjoy the surprise of discovering objects, new or discarded, that I can incorporate in my work. I am excited by timber furniture thrown out onto hard rubbish collection for there I may find the anatomy for the next redgum rodent.

Most of all I delight in playing in the studio, immersed in a timeless plane.
